St John’s Roma student Shauna Fisher was named The Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander VET Student of the Year at the Queensland Training Awards, which is a great achievement to be chosen out of 91 applicants that were in the running for the award.

Having always loved working with children, Shauna was delighted to be offered a traineeship at St John’s Catholic School in Roma, where she has completed a Certificate III in Education Support. From seeing the students in her Prep class learn and grow each day, Shauna knows that a career as a primary school teacher is the right choice for her future.

Shauna recently received the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young Indigenous Leader Award, which encouraged her to join her school’s Indigenous program where she can share her experiences and express the importance of culture to younger students.

Shauna will now move forward to the State Awards which were announced on Friday the 18th of September at 11:00am via a live streaming service. We wish her all the best with these awards as she has definitely put in the effort and hard work for it.
