Josephine McQueen is a year 9 student at Mary MacKillop Catholic College and gold academic award winner.  Josie has been working towards this award since year 7 and believes her commitment to studying has paid off.

Josie embraces school life fully, taking advantage of the opportunities at Mary MacKillop Catholic College. Now studying Media Arts, Josie is interested in the film and television industry as a possible future career pathway. Josie also enjoys STEM studies. Another possible career path Josie is considering is Medicine, and she sees the prospects of 3D printing and the convergence of medicine, science and engineering as opening up a world of opportunity.

Inspired by opportunities around her, Josie is thrilled to continue her studies through Year 12 and to University. “It is an amazing school for me; it is small enough to still have the advantage of teachers knowing who I am. I know that if I have any problems, I feel comfortable talking to any of my teachers. It’s about having trust and feeling comfortable I think. It is a really helpful community to be in,” she said. In her spare time, Josie enjoys extracurricular activities including the College Debating Team, after school Science, Chemistry and Physics tutorials, working towards her umpiring qualification in Netball, and supporting her peers with shared study sessions. Josie is also a supporter of the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life. She regularly sells homemade baked goods with her mum in support of the charity.
