Marni Zammataro’s boarding school journey began when she arrived at the gates of Somerville House in 2016, before her first day of year 7.

Four years later, Marni has established herself not only with other boarders, but also within the school community. Marni has received numerous accolades during her time
at Somerville, including being named Boarder of the Year in 2016 and 2018, House Captain 2018 and Student Ambassador for  2019-2020.
With a keen interest in legal studies, Marni has her eyes on pursuing her interest in law. Marni’s goal is to represent people suffering from injustice. “I’m an advocate for supporting the rural industry, especially in this period of drought.”

Marni has several philosophies she lives by to aid her success, including that “education is the one thing that no one can take away from you, treat others as you want to be treated, do not sweat the small stuff, the sun will rise each day” and “stay true to yourself — remember from where you have come”. Despite her academic success, community engagement and advocacy for social justice, Marni still greatly misses her family and their farm. “Although as a boarding community we are resilient, spirited and strong minded, sometimes, we do struggle,” she says.

Marni has developed a strong bond with her boarding sisters, and her friends in the day school. “We greatly value the endless support provided by our friends in the day school, who share their homes, their food and their families with us.”
