In the presence of COVID-19 the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation has called on residents and community members to support employees of Darling Downs Health. Support comes in the form of donations towards coffees, meals or essentials bundles as well as virtual hugs which will be on display for staff to view.

The initiative is being run through Wellbean Co Café which is situated on site at the Toowoomba Hospital. The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is encouraging the community to ‘Pay it Forward’ with the campaign aimed at helping the 2000 employees of the hospital. The simple gesture of purchasing a coffee is designed as a thank you to hospital staff, with more elaborate options on offer also.

The available meal is a Family Meal and can feed as many as four people. The essentials bundle contains eggs, bread, milk and a roll of toilet paper, for those employees whom are not able to visit grocery stores. The scheme is designed to assist not only those Health Workers attending the COVID-19 crisis, but also the workers “who are caring for the many patients who still need the health service, like Cancer Care, Rehab, Renal and Palliative Care”, Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said.

“There’s also all the staff who work behind the scenes in hospitality services, maintenance, cleaning and administration who are keeping the gears of the health service turning. We’ve had so many people put their hands up to help and we’re working on a number of different options of activities and programs that our community can get involved in from their homes,” she said.
