The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is bringing a little sunshine into patients’ lives in the form of Sunny, the organisations new mascot inspired by the Darling Downs region’s famous sunflower fields.
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said you’ll be able to spot Sunny out and about at family-friendly Foundation events and in the hospital on special occasions. “We all know that being in hospital isn’t fun. It can be lonely, scary and often boring especially for young kids,” she said. “That’s why is so important that we can now bring a little sunshine and cheer into the hospital, for kids, staff and older patients, with the help of our new mascot Sunny.”
Mrs Kennedy said the inspiration for Sunny came from the Foundation’s new focus on becoming a Darling Downs Health service wide fundraising body. “We wanted a mascot that represented our entire region, and the Darling Downs has such incredible pride in our agricultural background that it was only fitting that we went with something that captured that,” she said. “Sunflowers are known to be ‘happy’ flowers. They are bright, cheery and warm and grown right here on the Downs. They’re the perfect flower to bring hope, strength and smiles to patients. We’re incredibly proud to be able to introduce Sunny to our region and can’t wait for everyone to meet them.”
