The Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chamber) today affirmed its strong support for continued funding of the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) by Toowoomba Regional Council.
TSBE was initially funded by Council for a period of three years at $450,000 per year. That arrangement is soon to be reviewed by Council.
Chamber President Andrew Wielandt said “The Chamber first floated the TSBE initiative and was pleased that Council saw merit in the proposal to the point of agreeing to the first three year’s funding. Having an enterprise group in a city or region is common throughout Australia and the arrival of TSBE to the region was long overdue.”
He added, “The Chamber understands TSBE’s primary role is to attract new businesses and industries to the area with the consequent creation of new employment opportunities. We are keen to work with TSBE in that pursuit.”
In 2013 TSBE and the Chamber successfully applied for federal government funding under the “Small Business Advisory Services Queensland Natural Disasters” program. Their project was named “Riskproofing Southern Queensland Business” and sees both organisations collaboratively providing business services to the expansive Toowoomba and Surat Basin regions.
