Toowoomba Gardenfest 2014 was launched last week with Mayor Cr Antonio announcing ambassadors for the horticultural and culinary components of the festival.
Mayor Antonio said he was pleased to announce that Gardenfest will have the services of both a Horticultural Ambassador and a Culinary Ambassador to help promote fresh local produce and sustainable gardening.
“Mr Brian Sams – Principal teacher in Horticulture, Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE will be our first Horticulture Ambassador. Brian will be the face of Gardenfest for the nursery and gardening community,” said Mayor Antonio.
“Brian is an excellent choice. He has a real ‘green thumb’ and is a great role model for our budding horticultural students and the industry,” said Mayor Antonio.
With a greater emphasis on food this festival; it’s only fitting that Gardenfest has a Culinary Ambassador.
Mayor Antonio presented Mr Lee Faulkner, local celebrity chef and radio personality with a certificate for being Toowoomba Gardenfest’s Culinary Ambassador.
“Lee is well-known amongst the foodies in Toowoomba. His larger than life presence will certainly whip up excitement for Gardenfest.”
Locals and visitors will be treated to an exciting array of gardening gurus. Among them are: Claire Bickle, Noel Burdette, Jerry Coleby-Williams, Phil Dudman, Annette McFarlane and Paul Plant.
Gardenfest 2014 welcomes more foodies to the festival this year with 2013 My Kitchen Rules winners Dan & Steph dishing up a storm for visitors. The charming couple will be show casing their unique cooking style and entertaining audiences in the process.
Also joining the food segment is Masterchef Contestant Mindy Woods – Queen of Soul food, pop up restaurants and food tour guide. Mindy will be spicing things up with her Asian inspired dishes.
Gardenfest will host the traditional plant stalls and beautiful displays of floral art, orchids, roses and bonsai. Visitors can take part in gardening workshops and bring their ailing plants to the plant clinic for a diagnosis.
Gardenfest 2014 will showcase some of the region’s amazing artists. The Art & Sculpture competition will see an array of interesting and innovative paintings and sculptures made from traditional and recycled materials.
Toowoomba Gardenfest will be held on Friday 2nd May to Sunday 4th May 2014, at the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, Toowoomba via Campbell Street.
