Toowoomba has been announced as one of the winners for this year’s 2018 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA). Caitlyn Broderick’s work Where the ocean meets the sea took home the People’s Choice Award (Youth) and went home with $750 worth of Ironlak art materials voucher.

The Queensland Regional Art Awards is Flying Arts Alliance’s annual visual arts prize and exhibition for established and rising artists residing in regional and remote Queensland. This year’s QRAA theme was Wanderlust and artists were to discover something unique and special about their own community or one within the state and were asked to embrace elements of adventure so that they could produce works that reflect Queensland’s diversity in communities.

More than 160 artworks were submitted to the awards this year from across Queensland. The awards also attracted more than 2000 votes for People’s Choice through an online gallery which displayed all submitted artworks. A total of 26 artworks have been selected to tour in the Wanderlust exhibition, curated by Acimovic. The exhibition, supported by Holding Redlich, will tour to Brisbane and several regional centres from 2019 to 2020, including Somerset, Winton, Goondiwindi, Chinchilla, Toowoomba, and Ingham.
