Four decades of cricket will be celebrated as the University Cricket Club acknowledges its anniversary this week.

Club life member Dan McCabe said it had been a wonderful experience to see the club grow from humble beginnings.
“It has become a very important part of my life and I’ve made some incredible friends here,” he said. “We have known each other for decades and that bond is just as important as the cricket itself.” The club will mark its 40th anniversary with the Student-Bulldog Trophy match with Uni and Railways on Saturday (October 25).

USQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Jan Thomas said she was delighted to extend her congratulations to all involved with the club throughout its history. “Cricket is a great way to share a healthy outdoor social lifestyle and along with countless others from throughout the Toowoomba and regional community many university students, alumni and staff have formed friendships, gained new skills and widened their networks through their affiliation with the USQ Cricket Club,” she said.

The club was known as the Institute Cricket Club until 1989 when the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education was renamed to USQ.
