The annual USQ Bookcase festival gave bookworms a chance to enjoy writing workshops, panel discussions, book signings, readings and more. This annual festival is dedicated to all things writing
and reading. Novels, travel writing, short stories, poetry and blogging, the festival organisers left no genre undiscussed and no page unturned last weekend (18-19 July).
Among the swathe of talent presenting at the event were alumni. Kylie Kaden, best-selling fantasy author Kylie Chan, Walkley Award-winning journalist Mark Willacy and internationally renowned Australia author Holly Hill. This year, USQ Bookcase joined forces with the USQ School of Arts and Communication to announce the winner of the 2015 Bruce Dawe National Poetry Prize. “Over the years USQ has produced a number of wonderfully talented authors and writers – many of whom are award winners,” says USQ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jan Thomas. “Whether you’re a writer or a book lover, there is nothing like meeting and hearing about the journey of a successful author who has poured their heart and soul into telling a story.”
