Internationally acclaimed singer Wendy Matthews charmed her audience at an “intimate evening” at the University of Southern Queensland’s Artsworx on Wednesday 27 September.

After her sold out Little Village Sessions debut in 2015 Wendy – a six-time ARIA award winning recording artist – returned to the USQ Arts Theatre and once again played to a full house.

It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved as Wendy’s performance was ideally suited to the theatre.

The audience reveled in the atmosphere as she went through her repertoire.

Her range of songs was  highlighted by the hits from her seven platinum-plus selling albums The Day You Went Away and Woman’s Got to Have It.

Wendy was accompanied by Bruce Woodward (guitar, co-producer), Mark Scholtes (guitar, co-producer), Steve Russell (piano), Helen Russell (bass) and Paul Hudson (drums).

They, in turn, were supported by USQ music students, led by Clare Birchley, who provided backing vocals.

Artsworx, which is becoming an increasing influence on the Toowoomba entertainment scene, has a number of other productions coming up over the remainder of this year.

These include Cabaret on 20 October, Alumni Trio on 25 October, and Scouts Performance (The Wizard of Oz) on 10 and 11 November.

The season will be completed by a performance on December 3 by the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra.
