Artists and creatives across the Western Downs are invited to get their creative juices flowing and enter the 2023 Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition with the theme Essence. The Regional Artists’ Exhibition, which returns for its 10th year in 2023, is collaboratively planned and presented by the region’s major art galleries; Dogwood Crossing, Miles, Gallery 107 @ Dalby, and Lapunyah Art Gallery, Chinchilla. This year’s competition is hosted by Gallery107 @ Dalby.

The theme Essence refers to the basic, intrinsic nature of something – whether a person, a place, an object, or idea. It is the fundamental characteristic which gives something its individual identity, a contemplation on what is beyond the surface of a subject and an invitation to pause and engage deeply with what is right in front of us. Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the annual exhibition was a showcase for the diverse creative talent in the region and reflected the passion and vibrancy of Western Downs’ communities.

“The Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition has been a staple of our region’s creative arts scene since 2014, and we are fortunate to have such a wonderful platform to celebrate the people that help make our region such a creative and colourful place,” Cr Maguire McGuire said.

The exhibition offers a total prize pool of $3800 with four Category Prizes, the Young Artist Merit Award, and the People’s Choice Award. Entries for this year’s Western Downs Regional Artists’ Exhibition are now open, and close 5pm Monday 10 July 2023. The exhibition will be on display at Gallery 107 @ Dalby from 16 September – 10 November and will feature on the Western Downs Arts website as a Gallery and 3D virtual exhibition.
