The Western Downs Regional Council has announced a busy events calendar, Christmas Where the Gumtrees Grow, for the Christmas season that highlights the region’s festive spirit.

The Council is encouraging rural residents to decorate their letterboxes and property entrances with Christmas cheer. There are prizes for the three most creative designs, with a $500 Bunya Mountains accommodation voucher for first place, a $250 photography voucher for second and a $150 butcher voucher for third.

Christmas Where the Gumtrees Grow will feature a new addition to this year’s calendar with a magical wonderland at Chinchilla Botanic Parkland hosted by the Chinchilla Lions Club. The popular Christmas tree light-up event is also set to return to Dalby as well as Christmas carols and markets.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh believes the initiative will generate community pride across the region. “Council will work closely with community groups to deliver a jolly bundle of Christmas events in the lead-up to 25 December,” said Cr McVeigh. “We’ve got plenty on offer this year and I urge residents to dust off the Santa hat and get involved in all the exciting events and activities to come to the Western Downs this festive season.”
