Catherine Ardi has taken out the The Downs 2017 Woman in Business of the Year award at the Women in Business Awards gala on Thursday 9 November.

Ms Ardi is general manager of Excavation Equipment Pty Ltd, a Toowoomba based excavation equipment operation with bases in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and now New Zealand with inclusions in the top 100 Australian Financial Review Fast Starts List twice.

Judges were impressed that Catherine’s commitment to her business is supported by her strong sense of community supporting a myriad of charities and events across the region.

The announcement was made at the sold out gala event in Toowoomba, attended by 120 guests including councillors, Members of Parliament, city leaders, and past award winners.

Ms Ardi received the coveted award along with four other award winners and the Mary Wagner Honour recipient Jo Sheppard, and Awardees of Merit sharing in over $12,000 in prizes.

Women in Business Awards Executive Director Karen Phillips, who launched the awards program into the Downs, has praised Ms Ardi’s fearless tenacity to achieve such a highly successful business.

“Judges were highly impressed with her leadership style and ability to maximise the company’s market share in an unpredictable market showing age is no barrier to success,” Ms Phillips said.

Excavation Equipment Pty Ltd has a total of 13 full-time staff members and 5 casual staff as at March, 2017 that are in a range of positions in management, operations, tradespersons, sales and support.

Most recently, Excavation Equipment Pty Ltd reported a turnover of $10m in the 2016 financial year which was a 59% growth increase from 2015.

“Our focus has been on managing organisational growth, expansion and development I have demonstrated my ability to grow business organically through valued clients across the Australia,” Ms Ardi said.

“Our Downs winner has exhibited extraordinary leadership, fierce determination and enormous ambition, as well as an inherent thoughtfulness that extends far beyond her own career aspirations,” Ms Phillips said.

“Catherine is a passionate advocate for women in business, and epitomises everything the awards program represents,” she said.
