A festival with a fresh new approach has been announced to run over the Queen’s Birthday weekend from 4 to 7 October this year in south-west Queensland. Woop Woop Festival aims to re-define the multi-day music festival format by capturing the imagination with an immersive experience centreed upon an entertaining theatrical narrative. The festival tag line ‘music meets myth’ accurately describes the highly styled event that Woop Woop 2019 proposes.

Festival organiser Angie Sellars explained the idea behind the festival. “Woop Woop is affectionate Australian slang for both the middle of nowhere and a mythical outback town. Central to the Woop Woop Festival format, we are re-creating this frontier town on a cattle station just outside of Roma. Guests can expect highly stylised performance stages, dance and workshop venues, saloons and street parties all overlooked by our iconic town clock tower which will come to life each night in a visual spectacular of light and sound.”

Woop Woop Festival is a multi-genre event, celebrating all Australian music from country to rock and everything in-between. The first line-up release consists of many well-known and emerging Queensland and interstate bands and solo performers. The second release line up is due out in May. Woop Woop Festival is calling for local artists, actors, dancers, authors and storytellers to apply to contribute and enrich the experience, described as an epic Australian adventure story with a dash of time travel.

Woop Woop Festival will be held on a cattle station 45 kilometres south of Roma. There are a variety of ways to get to the location with good roads, a regular bus service and multiple daily flights to and from Roma Airport departing from Brisbane. The organisers are offering four-night camping tickets, discounted family tickets, day passes and accommodation packages. The Festival is dog friendly with a dedicated camping area for those wishing to bring their furry friends. A multitude of family friendly activities from workshops and markets to star gazing, an outdoor cinema and the dedicated Kids Zone will keep everyone entertained over this fun-filled long weekend.
