Queensland Youth Week (QYW19) is an annual event that celebrates young people aged 12 to 25 and how they positively contribute to Queensland communities. QYW19 will be running until Sunday 14 April and aims to be bigger and better than the 200 Youth Week events held across Queensland last year. This year’s theme, ‘Unlimited’ praises the boundless energy young people bring to their communities and encourages them to look at the future and see limitless possibilities. A competition was held to design the artwork for QYW19 using the theme ‘unlimited’ as inspiration, with 17-year old Scully Sommai taking the prize with her rendition of the unlimited expanse of space.

This year, join the Southern Downs Youth Council (SDYC) for UNLIMITED! Created by young people for young people, UNLIMITED! is an opportunity for the region’s youth to take part in fun, adventure-based activities and to socialise and connect with other young people from across the Southern Downs. SDYC will host the free UNLIMITED! event at the Leslie Dam YMCA Camp during Queensland Youth Week on 13 to 15 April for young people in Grades 7 to 12. The huge line-up of activities includes archery, low ropes, stand-up paddle boarding, geocaching, canoeing, rock climbing and more. Stop watching videos on YouTube—get among it and challenge yourself at UNLIMITED! Free morning tea and lunch is also provided.

Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie said UNLIMITED! is something active and fun for young people to get involved with during the April school holidays. “The Youth Council members from 2018 and 2019 have come up with a great event for young people in our region and have put a lot of hard work into making UNLIMITED! a reality,” Mayor Dobie said, “UNLIMITED! is a wonderful opportunity for young people to get out of their comfort zones and meet other young people from across the region, so the more people that take part the better!”
