The Toowoomba Inc. branch of Zonta will celebrate International Women’s Day on March 5 with a luncheon at Picnic Point. The theme of this year’s celebration is Resilience in the Time of Change.

Guest speaker at the lunch, which will begin at 11 am, will be USQ Associate Professor Eliza Whiteside, who will share a very raw and powerful story about her battle with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 28. Professor Whiteside now uses her own knowledge of resilience as a researcher in the industry.

Everyone is invited to celebrate with Zonta not only our daily resilience as individuals, families and businesses but also to raise funds for our local charity of choice, which is YWCA. The YWCA is built on a long history of supporting people in need including providing safe spaces and empowering people to make positive life choices.

Women are known to face some of the biggest challenges in our community where housing affordability is concerned. Other structural barriers such as poverty and financial inequality can place additional stress on women, who can rely on YWCA for support when they encounter difficult times.

The ninth Zonta Woman of the Year will also be announced at the lunch. This award recognises the remarkable achievement of a local women, who has demonstrated strong leadership and powerful community service.

Bookings for the lunch, at a cost of $98, can be made through
