With a long history as a Rugby school, Downlands College is delighted to expand its rugby coaching staff this year, welcoming ex-Wallaby, Mr Andrew Walker and experienced coach, Mr Graham Herlihy

Mr Andrew Walker has been appointed as First XV assistant coach and mentor for junior development, working alongside another ex-Wallaby and Downlands Past Student, Mr Garrick Morgan. Mr Walker is an indigenous rugby footballer who represented his country in both rugby league and rugby union – a dual code international. He brings a wealth of experience and is looking forward to working at the College.

Mr Graham Herlihy played first grade rugby league before venturing into a successful coaching career in both rugby league and rugby union. Mr Herlihy has devoted many years to fine tuning his coaching methods in order to get the players he coaches to reach their maximum potential. He was the 1st XV Defence Coach at The Southport School for the past 15 years, winning a number of GPS premierships and coaching quite a few young players who have gone onto play Super 15 and for the Wallabies. Mr Herlihy also worked alongside Mr Garrick Morgan at the Gold Coast Breakers. He has been appointed as First XV assistant coach, specialising in defence and will work in the defence area with all age groups.

According to Principal, Mr Stephen Koch, “Downlands College strives to provide our students with the best opportunities available in all areas – be that academic or co-curricular, individual or team development. We are fortunate to have dedicated teachers and coaching staff who provide excellent pathways for our boys and girls.”
