Four day students and four boarders make up the 2019 Downlands College Student Leadership Team. This group of young people from different backgrounds with diverse interests and talents, are committed to servant leadership and to making a difference.
Lily Norris joined the College when her brothers Bryn and Kellen were in Year 12 and Year 10 respectively. Each has held leadership roles, with Lily fulfilling the dual responsibilities of College Captain and Captain of Chevalier Boarding House. She enjoys building relationships, seeking opinions and understanding the needs of the school community. Ultimately, Lily hopes to model MSC values in her leadership roles, and to leave a positive imprint on Downlands. “I have always considered that kindness and authenticity — mixed with the right amount of fun — are imperative in life,” she said.
As the eldest in his family, Ben Spackman was the first to start his education at Downlands. Key factors in deciding on Downlands were educational opportunities, the onsite Rural Centre, strong community culture and co-educational boarding. His siblings, Hugh (Year 11) and Summer (Year 9), have since joined him at the College. With a passion for horses and agriculture, Ben enjoys studying Agricultural Science and developing his industry knowledge. He plans tertiary studies in Equine Science and Agribusiness, pursuing his passion for horses. Ben hopes to inspire fellow Downlanders to push their limits saying, “With hard work and commitment, anything is possible!”
