Opened late in 2018, Emporium Hotel South Bank has won a swag of awards including Australia’s Best Boutique Hotel and Australia’s Best Residences at the World Travel Awards. Its award winning rooftop bar, The Terrace, on Level 21 adjacent to the horizon edge pool, was deservedly named Best Boutique Bar 2019 at the QHA Awards in October. Chic white décor, luxe contemporary furniture, decorative glass and chrome, a roof that opens to the stars, and spectacular sweeping views of Brisbane River and the CBD, make this a sought after destination for the in crowd. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, The Terrace is a magical destination with its elegant and sophisticated aesthetic. Emporium Hotel owners Tony and Francine John previously developed and operated Emporium Hotel Fortitude Valley for a decade between 2007 and 2017. The hotel was inducted into Queensland Tourism’s Hall of Fame in 2014. The pair were intrinsic in the design, decoration, furnishing and accessorising of their new Emporium Hotel at South Bank.

They scoured the world for the finest glassware for instance, to ensure diners in their bespoke Signature restaurant were enjoying their wines from the best vessels available. Signature is led by husband and wife duo, Executive Chef Chris Norman and Executive Sous Chef Alex Liddle, whose extensive global experience delivers fresh, innovative and flexible menus showcasing the best Australian produce. The Signature space is something to behold. Its backlit white onyx bar has a caviar and oyster menu, and the private dining room features a 150-year old antique Parisian stained glass shopfront. The contemporary 60-seater restaurant is crowned by an architecturally designed coffered ceiling and bespoke lighting feature comprising 1000 handblown glass baubles.

The custom built cellar superbly frames the space, showcasing fine international and local wines. The bottles, alongside a magnificent collection of 200 magnums, line the cellar walls on floating wine racks. Hotel General Manager Charles Martin is a find. He was named Hotel Management Awards Rising Star in September. He is an effervescent ever-present part of the hotel’s hospitality experience presiding over the everyday operations with omnipresent spirit and flair. He is clearly passionate about his job, and his hotel. Understandably so. Emporium Hotel South Bank has become Brisbane’s go-to hotel spot for special celebrations such as Riverfire and New Year’s Eve where fireworks can be enjoyed from the brilliant vantage point of its spectacular rooftop bar.
