Luca Mayne is a true Germanophile and an Oktoberfest enthusiast. The 18-year old bartender at The Bavarian Toowoomba was born in Townsville and moved to the Garden City with his family when he was three years old.

After graduating from high school in 2016, he packed his bags and took off to Germany for what was meant to be a six-month trip. Luca fell in love with the country, growing incredibly fond of its unique and exciting restaurant culture. “I absolutely loved Germany, especially the beer and the food. It’s all so different to what we have in Australia.” He decided to extend his time in Germany, staying for a year in total and explored different parts of Europe, basing himself in Berlin and then Hanover. During his year abroad Luca attended Oktoberfest celebrations in Berlin, Hanover and Barcelona. “My Oktoberfest experiences were crazy,” Luca said. “There were so many people and each had such a fun, energetic atmosphere. The food was also insanely delicious.”

Luca returned to Toowoomba earlier this year after deciding he wanted to start a career in his beloved hometown. When he heard about the opening of The Bavarian Toowoomba, he knew it was the perfect fit and applied instantly. Luca also cannot wait to celebrate The Bavarian’s first Oktoberfest in Toowoomba. “The Bavarian is an authentic European dining experience,” he said. “I’m sure the Oktoberfest celebrations will be just as fantastic as they are in Munich.”
