Nestled in Lockyer Valley hamlet of Flagstone Creek, The Barn & Scotty’s Garage transports one on a trip back in time. The barn and garage feature an authentic Australian experience where its rustic charm is embedded everywhere from the automotive museum to the café itself where it serves up good old home-style cooking.

Run by husband and wife duo Scott and Sarah, the venue holds many fond memories, as the place Scott’s daughter Jayklyn tied the knot last year, wedding her now-husband Tim. It was indeed a fairy-tale like proposal where Jayklyn recounts how Tim went the extra mile to make the proposal a significant one for both. “I received an email titled One Time Offer Only, from Tim. Intrigued, I opened it to find a download link to an app that was to take me on a treasure hunt to locations around Toowoomba that were significant to our relationship. At each location, I found a rose and had to check in on the app for the instructions to the next site. Finally, at the last site I found Tim on one knee, ring in hand, dogs in tow and KFC nuggets getting cold.”

Soon after Jayklyn said “yes”, their wedding reception took place immediately after at The Barn & Scotty’s Garage where it held much significance and sentimental value especially for Jayklyn because it was family owned. “Having our wedding at a place that was special to me was key and I was never going to consider another venue. A lot of people don’t realise that Scotty’s collection (on show in Scotty’s Garage) started a long, long time ago and that I grew up with many of the items on show.”

They also went ahead with an unconventional wedding theme where they incorporated a carnival theme that suited their playful personalities. The colour scheme for guests was black and red where it was the Harley Quinn colours and the cakes were adorned with Joker and Harley Quinn images. Tim and Jayklyn’s guests were also treated for a unique experience where they were invited to partake in carnival games and had old-school carnival food (popcorn, dagwood dogs and donuts) as entrees while guests waited to have their caricature drawn as their favour. “After the photos we retreated to Scotty’s Garage for our first dance, before kicking off the celebrations with all 50 guests joining in the Grease Megamix on the dance floor. Dinner was burgers and chips served from the retro caravan on site with ice-creams and cupcakes to follow.”

The ambience and location were also ideal for the perfect wedding setting where Jayklyndescribes it as memorable. “The ceremony was held under the giant fig tree on the Flagstone Creek riverbed. The setting was perfect, cozy and beautifully lush. One of my favourite photos from the day is of the reception under this tree. The reception was held on the grounds, with guests being treated to entry to Scotty’s Garage.”

Thanks to The Barn & Scotty’s Garage, the couple were able to carry out an unforgettable wedding experience which they wanted and it will always be etched in their minds forever.
