Toowoomba’s sports and recreational clubs are encouraged to have their say as a survey is conducted by the Toowoomba Regional Council. This regional initiative will endeavour to record and prioritise the needs of local institutions in order to plan for future sports facilities within Toowoomba.

Environment and Community portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia already has big plans for the region, promising new infrastructure in the future. “We’re in the process of developing a new Sport, Active Recreation and Healthy Living Plan to guide Council actions for the short to mid-term future and the feedback from these clubs will help shape the decisions we make,” Cr Ramia said. “As part of our research, it’s critical we understand how sport and recreation organisations use existing facilities and determine the issues, concerns and opportunities facing sport and recreation organisations.”

Some information which is required includes current membership levels for clubs, facilities they use, anticipated growth, essential facility upgrades, fees, maintenance and more. “The plan will consider a broad range of spaces, places and activities that support active living from formal sport through to nature-based recreation, skate/scooter/bike activities, adventure-based recreation and individually-motivated activities.”

Cr Ramia believes this research will indicate to the council what services are important to the community, while also assessing its management of sport, recreation and healthy living habits within the area. “This is your chance to ensure your club’s needs are considered in the study as the survey is the main avenue clubs will have to let Council know about their needs.”

Sport and recreation organisations can contribute to the Toowoomba Sport, Active Recreation and Healthy Living Plan by completing the club survey here before it closes on Sunday 5 May 2019.
