Helping those less fortunate has been the norm for University of Southern Queensland (USQ) nursing student Georgina Rudken throughout her life. For her dedication to the community and her involvement in the University she was named the USQ All Rounder at the Student Awards on Wednesday night. “It was such an amazing moment to receive the award surrounded by my peers,” she said. “I think this award stands for getting in and having a go.”
Georgina has gone above and beyond in extra-curricular endeavours including being the president of the USQ Nursing Society, a Student Success Leader and Ambassador, as well as a youth leader in her church group and providing pastoral care in aged care. She also represented USQ in Badminton at the Australian University Games.
The third-generation nursing student said attending university was more than just pursuing a degree, and she found herself drawn to being involved within the USQ community. “I would like to think I have a go at everything,” Georgina said. “Like Catherine of Siena said, ‘be who you are meant to be and you will set the world on fire’.”
Despite busy class schedules, study and assignment deadlines, many USQ students go above and beyond in extra-curricular endeavours. Those exceptional efforts were acknowledged and celebrated at the 2019 USQ Student Awards at USQ. The awards recognised outstanding student contributions in the areas of sport, clubs and societies, leadership and community. Twelve awards, including USQ All Rounder, Unsung Hero and Sportswoman/Sportsman of the Year, were presented during the ceremony.
