Students from regional areas will gain valuable management and teamwork skills with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Residential Colleges announcing leadership positions for 2019.
This year the McGregor Resident Student Club (RSC) will predominantly be made up of students from the Toowoomba area, with members elected by fellow students, and are responsible for organising social events such as formals and sporting fixtures. Former Downlands College student Sophie Cavanagh will be the McGregor RSC President and said she viewed the position as an opportunity to lead a great team. “I hope the presidency will improve my own personal skills as well as help the growth of college,” Sophie said. “This position will give me a chance to experience leadership and guide a team within my uni years, which will give me valuable skills that will be useful throughout life.”
Former St Ursula’s student Brigitte Meara and RSC Secretary said she also saw the value in leadership positions while attending university. “College leadership opportunities are extremely important as they allow you to contribute to college life and prepare you for future leadership positions,” she said. “I am studying nursing and I feel a leadership position would benefit myself and future patients greatly.”
Meanwhile past Glennie School student Grace Twidale will take on the Social Coordinator and hopes to create a fun, supportive environment for students. “I applied not only because I love designing and creating, but because I want to make a difference to the college,” she said. “I wanted to make sure that no matter their background, everyone feels welcome and like they belong.”
