Westridge Meats has claimed the title of Queensland’s Best Bacon and Second Best Nationally, at the Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards.

“Winning Best Bacon in Queensland is an amazing win for us. We take so much pride in all our smallgoods and have been perfecting our bacon recipe over the past twelve months,” owner and butcher, Mr Luke Jensen said. “All our bacon is made onsite at Westridge Meats using traditional butchering and curing techniques.”

Last year, no Queensland butchers were placed on a national level. However, this year three Queensland Butchers were recognised nationally, with Westridge Meats being placed second. The overall National Bacon Winner is Princi Smallgoods from Perth, WA. This award is perfectly timed with Bacon Week which starts on 26 August 2019. Bacon Week aims to celebrate Australian Pork and the all people in the food web from the farmer to the butcher.

Westridge Meats only uses local pork from the Pilton and Clifton area. With a strong focus on locally sourced produce, Luke endeavours to source from farms within a 100 kilometre radius of Toowoomba. “We recently conducted some research with our farming families and discovered that over 700 local people are involved in getting our products from paddock to plate.” said Mr Jensen. “We love bacon for so many reasons. It can be a star ingredient for breakfast, lunch and dinner. From bacon and eggs, to a B.L.T Burger and or dinner, we have beautiful bacon-wrapped filet mignons instore.”

To celebrate the win and all things Queensland, Westridge and The Ridge Meatsare offering a five-dollars discount off its Breakfast Pack in the lead up to Father’s Day. The pack will consist of local free-range eggs from Warwick, milk straight from the farm on the Scenic Rim,ย local beef and pork sausages and Queensland’s best bacon.
