Concordia Lutheran College’s 2019 Captains Laura Knott and Jordan Schloss agree that the wide range of opportunities available to them during their time at Concordia has prepared them well for their captaincy positions.

Jordan commenced at Concordia in Kindergarten while Laura started in Prep, which means they have more than 25 years of experience as Concordia students between them. Laura, who intends to study Pharmacy at university when she graduates, has participated in the UQ Young Scholars program in Brisbane and the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra — both prestigious academic programs.

Jordan plans to study a Bachelor of Environmental Science next year and has enjoyed a broad range of activities from the basketball court to being cast as a lead in the College’s 2019 Musical, Bugsy Malone. They both list the four-week Outdoor Education experience in Year 9 — where their year group spent four weeks without technology while participating in a range of challenging outdoor activities — as an important milestone in their development. “It has been great to really connect with the younger students in our roles this year,” says Laura.

Jordan says the community that exists at Concordia is something special. “It’s a supportive community where you can ask anyone for help and the teachers will do anything at all to help you,” he says. “Concordia has helped me find what I actually want to do after school — it has helped me think outside of the box and find what I am really interested in.”
