Focus on Farms is a photographic competition organised by Gomaren and Doctors Creek Catchment Landcare Group (GDCC). The group is based around an area with the town of Goombungee roughly near the center of the catchment.
The 5th annual photographic competition is open to all Toowoomba Regional Council residents as well as all Landcare Groups and similar groups within the Darling Downs and Condamine Catchment area. The group is going digital this year so despite the restrictions it hopes to reach out to a wide audience. It includes a section for primary school children which might prove to be a sanity saver for many parents who are home schooling at the moment. The presentation event will be held in Goombungee on November 7, to coincide with the very popular Jacaranda Festival and showcasing the guest speaker, Paul McIntosh from PulseAustralia.
The Focus on Farms photographic competition grew out of a desire to encourage new membership in Landcare and other groups with similar values, highlighting the role of farming and rural communities on the Darling Downs and showcasing the unique rural and agricultural landscapes. It also aims to facilitate real communication between urban and rural communities by sharing experiences of how people from all walks of life connect to the land. Another goal is to provide an avenue for school children to develop a passion for the natural environment and an appreciation of farming and rural life.
