The Empire Theatres 2019 major production Kinky Boots will prove that sometimes the best way to fit in is to stand out. Based on a true story and with a 2005 film by the same name, Kinky Boots is an exhilarating new musical with a score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, knockout dancing and an inspiring storyline.

It follows aspiring young businessman Charlie Price, who is forced to give up his London city life in order to save his late father’s bankrupt shoe factory. He finds unexpected inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As Charlie and Lola work to turn the factory around, they find they have more in common than they imagined and discover that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

Kinky Boots Director Alison Vallette wants prospective audience members to know that this is a show about more than just a great pair of shoes. “Kinky Boots is a show that has a great storyline and great music,” Alison said. “It’s different to the typical ‘older school’ musical and I’m always up for a challenge.” Alison, whose directorial credits include Empire Theatre productions Wicked (2017), Mary Poppins (2015), The Wizard of Oz (2012), Hairspray (2013) and Cats (2009) as well as choreographing The Phantom of the Opera (2014), said Kinky Boots was not a musical to be underestimated. “The title of the show may be off-putting to some people, assuming the term ‘kinky’ indicated some sort of deviant behaviour. Kinky Boots is about anything but! This story is about acceptance, tolerance, determination and love. The old adage of never judging a book by its cover comes through time and time again with this show!”
