Some of Australia’s best-loved authors have donated books for a giant raffle in efforts to raise funds for drought relief aid for farmers through charity Buy a Bale, with a total of 100 books making up three prize packs. Author and organiser Josephine Moon is hoping to raise $100,000 through the fundraiser, raffling the prizes online to be drawn on Tuesday 2 October.

Josephine said initially she thought it would be a small raffle, but she was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of Australian authors. “Before I’d even finished finalising the list we’d raised $12,000 in two weeks and that was just through Facebook,” said Josephine. “But the sky’s the limit and we think $100,000 sounds like a goal worth shooting for. The incredible uptake of this raffle shows me that Australia has a wealth of quality literature and that people absolutely love books, which is heartening for us all. It’s also wonderful to see how much Australians want to help our farmers and if they can express that through their love of books it’s a win-win for everyone.”

Highlighted authors include bestsellers and award winners Liane Moriarty, Tim Winton, Sofie Laguna, Rachael Johns, Monica McInerney, Sally Hepworth, Jessica Rowe, Benjamin Law, Christian White, Kelly Rimmer, Mark Brandi, Dervla McTiernan, Kate Forsyth, Liz Byrski, Brooke Davis, Fleur McDonald, Anita Heiss, Susan Johnson, Anna Daniels, Fiona Palmer, Annie Seaton, Kylie Ladd, Karen Viggers, Nick Earls, Ellie O’Neill and Amanda Hampson.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and can be bought online via the link on Josephine’s homepage.
